IDEA SYMPOSIA AND WORKSHOPS
While Filipinos are very entrepreneurially minded by nature, the culture of entrepreneurship in the Philippines is still very fragile. In addition to this, a lack of knowledge in formal entrepreneurial processes (especially for S&T based startups) abounds.
PhilDev initiated annual symposia and workshops to address these two issues.
The symposia puts entrepreneurship at the forefront and invites academe, the private sector and government to weigh-in on the issues around technopreneurship as a means to economic development. Entrepreneurs, angel and VC investors, business professionals, government officials and members of the academe discussed various topics including upcoming trends, barriers to entry, fundraising, intellectual property and other issues affecting the entrepreneurship ecosystem in the Philippines.
The annual workshops is an intense immersion into Dado's own 5 Success Factors for Start-ups. Silicon Valley entrepreneurs lead the modules and work with participants to help them understand what it really takes to succeed. Local investors and PhilDev trustees also act as mentors and walk participants through the success factors through hands-on exercises, discussions and pitches. The workshop modules are covered in 5-days, broken down into a 2-day and 3-day leg.
The first symposium and workshop were held in 2014 in Manila. The second were held in Cebu in 2015.
Preparations for a third symposium and workshop (first leg) are underway for February of 2016, also in Manila. The second leg of the workshop will follow a month or two later.
