PhilDev Scholarship team visits PhilDev-Shell scholars

The PhilDev Science and Engineering Scholarship (PSES) Program aims to build a nationwide community of scholars/ leaders from among the best and brightest science and engineering (S&E) students enrolled in universities all over the country. PSES provides both financial assistance and support services including one-on-one counseling sessions, mentorship program, annual summer camps and internship, and job placement assistance.

As part of its support services to the scholars, the PhilDev Scholarship Team conducted its regular visit to PhilDev scholars from different universities in the Visayas and Mindanao region from March 12-24, 2018. Universities visited include University of San Carlos in Cebu, Mindanao State University in Iligan, and Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan in Cagayan de Oro.

The team conducted one-on-one sessions with 72 scholars from the different universities. Meetings were also held with academic heads of the universities to refresh and update them of PhilDev activities and the PSES Program. Dialogues with key leaders of the universities were conducted to discuss changes in the science and engineering curriculum and their experience in its implementation. They also had the privilege of attending the Graduation ceremony of two PSES Scholars: Leo Villalba who graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in BS Electronical Engineering and Rey Bryan Sambo who graduated Cum Laude with a degree in BS Mechanical Engineering. Both scholars graduated from Xavier University.

The PSES team also had a special meeting with PSES/PhilDev scholars, John Carl Obenario, Jeanette Pao, Prince Sam Lazaga, Rick Rico who were part of Team Dagib.  Team Dagib of MSU-IIT recently competed in the Shell Eco-Marathon in Singapore. The group named their kart “Tarintik” meaning rain drop, following the shape of the vehicle.

With 100 million pesos in seed funding from Pilipinas Shell Foundation, the PhilDev Science and Engineering Scholarships (PSES) supports talented students that lack financial capability, that they may continue to pursue their studies in disciplines under the umbrella of science and technology in partner universities.

Scholarships are given to students who are entering their second year (or upwards) in any Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Mathematics (STEAM) course.  Visit www.phildev.org/philippine-scholarships  for more information about the Phildev’s Science and Engineering Scholarship Program.
