We have great news to share: our first PhilDev-Shell scholar has graduated! Congratulations Vance Navales, who earned a BS degree in Electrical Engineering, cum laude, from the University of San Carlos.

Of the 253 USC College of Engineering graduates this academic year, only 18 graduated with honors. Vance was one of the only three from the Electrical Engineering department.

“I took up Electrical Engineering because it is the profession the nation needs right now. We have enough energy resources yet we still have power shortages in many parts of the country. A new batch of young electrical engineers is needed to help solve this problem,” says Vance.

“My plan for now is to review for the board exam in September, pass it and apply for a job. Becoming a Professional Electrical Engineer in this country is a remarkable achievement as there are only a few PEEs. I also dream of becoming an entrepreneur and starting my own company. Since I am a car enthusiast, I want to own a tuning company where I can upgrade, tune and modify cars and test them on the track.”

Vance’s advice to scholars everywhere is simple: “Never stop learning. Don’t just study for an upcoming exam. Study with all your heart because you want to learn.”
